Frequently Asked Questions

Are your services covered by insurance?

I really wish! As of right now, we are a cash-pay clinic . If your insurance is out of network, we can provide a “super bill” after completion of treatment to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. You may also be able to use your HSA or FSA funds for our services. I can provide you with a detailed invoice and other supporting documentation to submit to your insurance company if needed. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that our services will be eligible for reimbursement.

I’m not located near you. Can you still help me?

Yes! The benefits of technology allow me to work with clients nationwide. Although I would love to meet you in person, we can communicate via phone, video calls, and e-mail.

Do you guarantee your services?

If you are really struggling we know it can seem as if there is no end in sight, but our programs really work!  Our insurance, however, won’t let us guarantee our services because some of the results are out of our hands. Parents play a huge role in the success of our process. We do everything in our power to get you to your goal, but we can’t make you do anything. We understand that minor mistakes may happen along the way, but as long as you follow the customized advice we give your family and truly wish for your baby, we will assist you and your child get the results you wish to see.

Why work with a Sleep Consultant?

Most of the time, my clients are parents who have already tried finding their own sleep solutions and found it wasn’t successful, and there are dozens of reasons why that might happen.

The biggest reason why the solutions that work for one parent don’t work for another is simple. They’re not dealing with the same baby.
Some babies are heavily reliant on sleep props. Others can’t sleep in a room that’s too warm. Some may not be getting enough daytime sleep, and others might be overtired. This baby might have developed an association between feeding and falling asleep, whereas that one might be ready to drop their second daytime nap.

And, of course, it could be any combination of all of the above, or the many other sleep challenges that babies might experience.
Adding to the challenge is the fact that most solutions don’t work overnight, so parents might try a solution that could potentially help baby start sleeping through the night, but abandon it before it takes effect due to some heavy protesting on baby’s part.
In short, sleep is a complicated issue and there’s very rarely one single thing that can remedy the situation overnight.

I have the experience and training to recognize which problems result in specific symptoms, and can work with you to develop a personalized plan for your child that addresses those individual issues. I can also provide some much needed support when things don’t seem to be working, and give you the encouragement you need to follow through on that plan until it starts to work.

Consider the example of a personal trainer. You could just get some dumbbells and watch some YouTube videos in order to get in shape, so why pay someone to guide you along?
Well, because they’re able to give you solid advice based on education and experience, they can help to keep you motivated, and they know how to respond to the problems that might arise when it comes to your specific situation.

How early can I begin Sleep Training my child?

You can begin healthy sleep habits from birth! Check out our Newborn package here or invest in the Newborn Sleep Guide!  For those parents who wish to utilize our sleep training options, we ask that your child is at least 3-4 months old.

What happens during a consultation?

We believe the key to successfully teaching your child to love sleep is consistency, schedule & a united front. We find that parents have an easier time staying committed when they understand why their actions make sense.

During the sleep consultation meeting, we investigate your child’s current sleep situation and lifestyle. We will begin by reviewing your client history form & sleep diary together and going over some science behind the sleep: basics that include biological, neurological & behavior capacities.  During the actual sleep consultation, we work with you on both nighttime and naps simultaneously, and focus on the particular areas that you are experiencing issues with. We help you help your child to learn the falling asleep process, and how respond in a way that supports your child’s needs but encourages independence. All of this is done with an emphasis on holistic ideals that are customized to your child, values and family’s lifestyle.

By including you every step of the way, you become empowered- meaning when your baby experiences a setback, you’ll know exactly how to respond to get back on track. After our initial meeting, we will follow up with a detailed sleep plan, and together we will agree to a start date on when to implement the plan.

We set ourselves apart by offering real-time texting support- you aren’t sure that you’re doing the right thing in the moment?  Text us. Each sleep package is followed by several support phone calls/emails/texts over one week, with additional weeks available if needed. These touch bases ensure your questions are answered and allow us to tweak things if necessary so you’re comfortable and supported every step of the way.

Will you ask me to let my baby “Cry It Out”?

Never! My definition of the Cry It Out (CIO) method is putting your child down awake, leaving the room, and not coming back until the morning. With CIO, there is no interaction during the night and thus no teaching of skills.

Now, if your baby is over 3 months old, there will likely be some amount of crying.  Your child will express some frustration and tiredness through the process of mastering a brand new skill, just as he or she communicates when learning anything new for the very first time.  While it is impossible to predict how much protest to expect from each individual child before we begin — because so many factors play a role, including a little one’s specific personality and temperament — we will talk through the process step by step.  Your consultant will ensure that you know exactly how to respond to protest to support your child through these changes.  It is always our goal that crying is short-term, productive, and never a result of any unmet needs.

Can I sleep train while breastfeeding?

Absolutely!
A lot of new mothers (and old mothers alike) think that breastfeeding and sleeping through the night are mutually exclusive. For all of you breastfeeding mothers out there, I’m happy to report that this is simply not the case. While it’s true that breast milk is digested faster than formula, breastfed babies are still capable of sleeping for more than a few hours at a time, and past the six-month mark, they’re just as capable of sleeping through the night as their formula-fed counterparts.

Can I sleep train if we co-sleep?

The short answer is no; due to safety considerations and other factors, I do not work with co-sleeping families. However, if you are room-sharing and your child has his or her own sleep space, I am happy to help you reach your sleep goals.
